Description
Aretha Franklin is an R&B and soul legend whose career has spanned over 50 years and produced such hits as "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Think." With 18 Grammy Awards, 88 charted singles on Billboard, and over 75 million records sold, Franklin is one of the best-selling female artists of all time. Andy Warhol produced the album cover artwork for Franklin's 1986 album 'Aretha', a few months shy of his death in early 1987. This extraordinary text-based work comprises nine individual works on paper, each in the artist's own hand, spelling out the name 'Aretha' in different styles, with one sheet also containing Andy Warhol's own name in his own signature style, a total of 5 times [Sheet sizes: 2 5/8 x 11 5/8 in. (6.7 x 29.5 cm.); 8½ x 9 3/8 in. (21.6 x 23.8 cm.); 8½ x 11 in. (21.6 x 27.9 cm.); 8½ x 11 in. (21.6 x 27.9 cm.); 11 x 8½ in. (27.9 x 21.6 cm.); 13¼ x 9 3/8 in. (33.7 x 23.8 cm.); 13¼ x 9 3/8 in.
