Swingeing London 67

Photo-offset lithograph in colours from 6 plates on Fabriano paper
Origin / Date
Milan, 1968
Special Edition of 50, signed
70.5 x 50 cm
From the special edition of 50, each signed and numbered by the artist in pencil from the strictly numbered edition of 50 (there were also 1950 unsigned copies, + 50 signed artist’s copies, detailed as follows: 1000 copies on machine-made, uncoated Opaline paper, 1000 copies on Fabriano paper. Some artist’s copies on both types of paper were signed and dedicated by the artist.) This edition was created from press cuttings collected by the artist at art dealer Robert Fraser's gallery after the arrest of Fraser and Mick Jagger for drug possession. The assemblage includes the infamous photograph of Robert Fraser and Mick Jagger handcuffed together in a police van taken by John Twine and marked the first time this specific image was used by Hamilton (he later produced several editions focusing the entire printed image on this arrest photograph). [Published by ED 912 Edizioni di Cultura Contemporanea, Milan, with their printed colophon on the reverse, with the corresponding edition number also included within the printed text]. Literature: Lullin 69.
