Executed in 1979, Tom Wesselmann's Embossed Smoker incorporates one of the artist's most recognizable motifs: a closely-cropped image of a woman's mouth as she smokes a cigarette. The billowing smoke that emerges from her mouth form the confines of this image. With vibrant colors and overtly sexual iconography, Embossed Smoker underscores the innovative Pop Art for which Wesselmann is best known.
